  10. @Mike – I’ll agree with you that hitting the gym can often up your chances of getting a girl. A lot of it has to do with you appearing healthy and taking care of yourself. If all you do is sit around and play video games while eating pizza all day, you’re going to look like a slob. If you hit the gym once in awhile not only are you likely to improve your overall physique – you are showing that you care about yourself.

  12. Speaking for myself, I’m a major competitive athlete. I’ve slowed down since I graduated high school, but I have that athletic mindset. For me I know that I need someone who has that athletic mindset as well. Even just playing sports can make you look good because you’re able to demonstrate a skill. For me, I don’t need a guy who is perfectly cut/six-pack-tastic, but I do need someone who at least looks like he takes care of himself and is going to be able to keep up. As in – I’m not likely to end up with someone who already has a massive beer gut in his mid-twenties.

  15. I love your blog. I just love it. You remind me of my mom, only younger. You are so wise and I hope that young women are listening to you and saving themselves years of heartache and STDs.

  17. I am 36 years old, and wow… I am so glad I grew up when I did! When you could still have a boyfriend and not just hook up all the time, and that was normal! And wow… I am so glad I am happily married! It’s a jungle out there.

  19. Keep up the good work.

  26. Good storytelling is good because it’s realistic, unless it’s overwhelmingly plot driven, which JA clearly isn’t. People read Jane Austen primarily because of her ability to realistically present interactions between individuals.

  28. Exactly. The stories that abide are the ones that speak to the human condition. Jane Austen is remarkable in that, while she is considered the godmother of all chick lit, her novels have been popular with men as well. Her insight into the characters of both men and women is remarkable.

  30. One of my favorite lines in P&P is when Jane says, referring to Darcy and Wickham, ” “There certainly was some great mismanagement in the education of those two men.
  31. One has got all the goodness, and the other all the appearance of it.”
