Screamo confessed this to Goose and I later that afternoon. We both burst out laughing, which is possibly not the most helpful reaction, but I couldn’t help it. It seemed such a ridiculous thing to happen in the aftermath of taking a dead cat to the vet.
That, and I just don’t think I could do it. Earlier in the weekend I was talking about my previous weekend staying over at Carwash’s house. He had slept on the couch, much to his back’s disgust, and I told him that next time we should just share. Someone asked me if I wasn’t tempted, even just a little, to have sex with him.
My response was a flat no. I actually said “My heart is too close to my vagina”. If I was to sleep with Carwash, I don’t know that I could stop myself feeling something for him again. I don’t know that it would be good for my head, my heart, or my self esteem.
I had also said to Goose prior to Screamo joining us at the pub, that if I did discover that I had the ability to sleep with boys “just for the sex”, I’m not sure if a little part of me might die. The same little part of me that still believes that thre’s someone awesome out there for me with whom I can be happy forever. The same little part of me that wants the total number of boys I’ve slept with to stay in single digits, or at least under 12. The same little part of me that wants to tell my future daughter stories of true love and not feel like it’s all one big lie.
Call me naive, call me old-fashioned, call me frigid. But you can’t call me a slut.

So he played it really well. We had our first date the night before he flew to Roma for two weeks of work. So there was no way that I could see him within that time. After our first date he sent a few texts here and there. Attentive without being overbearing. Good start.
